The City of Brooklyn Park used a public involvement process to provide all stakeholders in the study area an opportunity to contribute and comment on the project. Upcoming public involvement opportunities and project updates will be posted here as new information becomes available.

2019 - 2020

February 2020

Tree cutting is planned for this week (2/17) in anticipation of construction. These trees need to be cut down prior to nesting periods for certain birds in the area.

Check back to this site as we will make regular updates as actual construction activities begin later this spring.

January 2020

The TH 169/101st Interchange Project is scheduled for construction beginning in spring of 2020. During 2019 the final design of the new interchange was completed and approved along with the needed permitting. Right of way acquisition was also completed in late fall of 2019.

Contractors are preparing their bids to construct the project; the City of Brooklyn Park will open those bids on January 31, 2020 and award the project to the lowest bidder soon thereafter. Construction activities are likely to start in March with initial tree clearing and mobilization of heavy equipment onto the site. The project will be under construction throughout this summer with the new interchange open to traffic in late fall. There will likely be some miscellaneous work which will extend into spring of 2021.

The City of Brooklyn Park, in cooperation with its project partners, invites you to an open house meeting for the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Brooklyn Park City Hall (5200 85th Avenue North) from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This open house serves as an opportunity to review the project layout, learn more about the current project status, and discuss next steps in the project development process. A brief presentation will begin at 5:30 p.m.

The TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project was selected for $7 million in Federal-aid funding through the Regional Solicitation process. The TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project is included in the Metropolitan Council’s 2018-2021 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). Additional information on the 2018-2021 TIP can be found on the Metropolitan Council webpage.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has issued its Findings of Fact and Conclusions (FOF&C) for the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project. Under Minnesota Rules, MnDOT is the responsible governmental unit for the project. MnDOT had determined the proposed TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project as described in the EAW and FOF&C does not have the potential for significant environmental impacts. On February 27, 2017, MnDOT concluded that an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is not required, and issued a Negative Declaration Order for the project. This concludes the Minnesota state environmental review process for the project.

The City of Brooklyn Park, in cooperation with its project partners, held the second open house for Phase II of the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Preliminary Design study on November 10th. A preliminary design layout and an Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) have been prepared. This open house served as an opportunity to review and provide input on the layout and EAW, as well as learn more about the next steps including the City of Brooklyn Park’s efforts to obtain funding for the project. This was an informal open house meeting, whereas no formal presentation.

The City of Brooklyn Park, in cooperation with its project partners, invites you to the second open house for Phase II of the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Preliminary Design study on November 10th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church located at 8601 101st Avenue North in Brooklyn Park. An Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Project has been prepared and is available for public review and comment from October 24 to November 23, 2016. Comments can be mailed, prior to the close of the public comment period, to Rick Dalton, MnDOT Environmental Coordinator, 1500 West County Road B2, Roseville, MN 55113. Comments may also be emailed to richard.dalton@state.mn.us.

The City of Brooklyn Park recently submitted an application for funding the interchange as part of the Metropolitan Council’s Regional Solicitation process. The process allocates federal transportation funds to locally-initiated projects to meet regional transportation needs. Successful applications will be announced this winter.

The City of Brooklyn Park, in cooperation with its project partners, held the first open house for Phase 2 of the TH 169/101st Avenue Interchange Preliminary Design study on November 19th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church located at 8601 101st Avenue North in Brooklyn Park. The second phase of this project is underway and will include further study and refinement of Alternative #2, which was recommended from the Phase 1 study. As part of the Phase 1 interchange study, a range of system alternatives were developed, evaluated, and scoped for implementation by the study partners. This was an informal open house meeting, whereas no formal presentation.
